St Mary’s Basilica is one of the oldest churches of Bengaluru, built by Tamil Christian migrants from the village of Gingee (located in Tamil Nadu). St Mary’s Basilica was built in the 17th century using Gothic style architecture with ornamental motifs, coloured glass windows and majestic arches. St Mary’s Basilica’s main tower is about 160 feet in height. The statue of Our Mother Mary is draped in saree and worshipped each day. Statue of mother Mary holding infant Jesus is also a sight to behold. St Mary’s Basilica has been elevated as ‘Minor Basilica’, one of the few churches to achieve this status.
