Shivappa Nayaka Palace

The Shivappa Nayaka Palace is located on the banks of the Tunga river, off the busy lanes of Shivamogga. This monument to the glory of the Keladi Nayakas is built almost entirely of rosewood. Intricately carved wooden pillars and motifs on the walls take the pride of place inside the palace. The museum inside the palace houses sculptures and antiquities from the Keladi period along with the Chalukya and Hoysala eras.

Highlights of Shivappa Nayaka Palace

  • Darbar Hall: Will massive wooden pillars, the main hall of the palace used for meetings and gatherings. Only Darbar hall building is intact now, out of a much larger palace complex.
  • Four rooms: Darbar Hall has four rooms, one of which was used to store weapons
  • Mini Balcony: Above durbar hall is a balcony
  • Museum: Several idols, statues, stone monuments and artifacts, antiquities of the region are preserved and presented in the Palace.
  • Garden: Outside of the palace a nice garden is available for a quick stroll.

Timing: Shivappa Nayaka Palace is open from 9 AM till 6.30 PM. This Palace can be visited all through the year.

How to reach: Shivappa Nayaka Palace is 310 kms from Bengaluru and 3 kms from Shivamogga city centre. Mangaluru International Airport is 188 kms away. Shivamogga town is the nearest railway station. From Shivamogga town hire an auto to reach the Palace. 

Stay: Shivamogga city has several budget, mid range and luxury hotels.
