Mysuru Zoo

The Mysuru Zoo or the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens is the most popular zoo in Karnataka and is one of the oldest zoos in the country, established in 1892. The zoo is home to abundant flora and fauna and is known for 1,450 species of animals and 168 species of birds belonging to more than 25 countries. Mysuru Zoo is a must-visit when in Mysuru, particularly for animal lovers and families with kids.

Adopt an animal: Mysore zoo has an adoption program where visitors can fund caretaking expenses of an animal and support a noble cause.

Timing: Mysuru Zoo is open from 8.30 AM till 5.30 PM on all days, except on Tuesday (weekly holiday). It is recommended to enter the Zoo campus at least two to three hours before closing hours for maximum experience. Also, note that animals often prefer taking rest between 11 AM and 3 PM due to intense heat. Birds and animals are most active during early morning hours or after 3 PM

How to reach: Mysuru is 150 km from Bengaluru. Mysuru is well connected by Air, Rail and road network. Mysuru Zoo is 2.5 km from the Mysuru bus stand, 3.5 km from Mysuru railway station and 10 km from Mysuru airport. Mysuru Zoo can be reached by auto or taxi.
