“Joga” otherwise commonly known as Jog Falls in Shivamogga district, (400 km from Bengaluru), is one of the most spectacular and hence most visited waterfalls in Karnataka. the Sharavati River makes a spectacular drop of 830 ft in four distinct cascades – known locally as Raja, Rani, Roarer and Rocket – to create the highest untiered
waterfall in India and one among the highest falls in Asia.  
The effect is greatly heightened by the
wild and beautiful region around the falls, which is covered with a wealth of luxuriant vegetation. The falls are at their best during the monsoon, with arching rainbows colouring the mist. Jog Falls is also known as Gerusoppa Falls, Joga Jalapatha and Jogada Gundi in the regional Kannada language.

  • View the majestic waterfalls: Visitors can view the waterfalls from two open viewing decks (one near the main entrance and parking area and an additional one near the inspection bungalow (IB)). By Train: Talaguppe is the nearest train station 20 kms away from Jog Falls and has daily trains from the state capital Bengaluru. There are 3 direct trains from Bengaluru to Shivamogga and Hubli to Shivamogga as well which are frequent.

By Road: Nearby towns of Sagara to Jog Falls are 40 kms and Shivamogga to Jog Falls is 105 kms which are well connected by road if you are planning to travel by bike or car. You may also opt for the State Owned buses such as KSRTC or Rajahamsa(under KSRTC) and you may look up the official KSRTC website for timings and ticket bookings. You may also book for KSTDC cabs and buses based on your requirements. Local Taxis can be availed as well from the nearby towns to visit Jog Falls. 

By Air: The nearest airports to Shivamogga are Hubli, Mangalore International Airport Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru and lastly Goa International Airport. The following is listed based on the distance from the destinations to the airport.

There are multiple hotels in and around Jog Falls. KSTDC runs Hotel Mayura Gersoppa in Jog Falls, which has very good accommodation with a scenic view from the room. 

Sharavathi Adventure Camp operated by Jungle Lodges offers cottage style accommodation as well. Several budget and luxury stay options are available in the town of Sagara, 35 kms from Jog Falls. Multiple home stays are also available in the region to help you experience an authentic Malenadu (Western Ghats) stay.
