Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery: Jaganmohan Palace, one of the fine buildings in Mysuru is now converted into an art gallery. The art gallery is worth a visit because of its wide and impressive collection of artifacts. Jaganmohan Palace was formerly a royal residence, later converted into an art gallery and museum. It was opened to the public in 1915 by the then king of Mysuru- Nalvdi Krishnaraja Wodeyar.

What to expect:

Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery houses one of the largest collections of important artifacts in South India. The count of art work exceeds 2000. 

  • Paintings by Raja Ravi Varma depicting scenes from prominent Hindu epics such as Mahabharatha and Ramayana, donated by former king of Mysuru Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar
  • Paintings depicting war between Tipu Sultan and the British, by Col. Scot
  • Paintings made on a grain of rice, visible only with a magnifier lens.
  • Lady with the lamp by Haldenkar
  • Paintings by Rabindranatha Tagore 
  • Musical instruments on display
  • Sculptures, Brass items, coins and currencies from ancient times

Timings to visit Art Gallery: Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery is open between 8.30 AM and 5.30 PM on all days.

How to reach Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery: Mysuru is well connected by air, road and rail from Bengaluru (150 kms away). Jaganmohan Palace and art gallery is 2 kms from Mysuru city centre.
