Golf Courses of Karnataka

Karnataka has several golf courses and is a perfect destination to golfers.  Golf courses are available in different parts of Karnataka and not just Bengaluru.

A group of avid golfers from Karnataka, embarked on a mission of identifying Bangalore as the golfing capital of South India. The search for a suitable site for an international standard golf course started in right earnest and in May 1980, the then Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri. R Gundu Rao personally took the initiative to hand over 125 acres of land in Challaghatta to the Karnataka Golf Association. Over the years, the golfers arranged for funds to improvise and bring about a good golf course and by May 1989, 18 holes were completed in the course. Around this time they started conducting Golf Course Championships to the members of the club. Between this brief period of years, the golf course continued to be improved to make it as smooth as can be and today, the Bangalore Golf Course is known to be one of the best golf courses with many members part of the club.

Bangalore Golf Club, Kumarakrupa Road

Probably the most popular Golf club right inside Bengaluru city, Bangalore Golf Club is located right opposite the Lalit Ashok hotel and was established in 1876. BGC has an 18 hole course in a 60 acre campus with excellent facilities and access.

Eagleton Golf Village, Ramanagara

Just outside Bengaluru city, Eagleton operates a resort and an 18 hole golf course in Ramanagara.  With over 2500 trees, lush green landscape and water bodies, the Eagleton Golf Village offers international standards and luxury when it comes to golfing in Karnataka. 

Eagleton Golf Village was awarded as one of the Best Courses in India by Asian Golf Monthly and is the only course in South India to be listed in the Rolex Top 1000 Golf Courses of the World.

The KGF Gymkhana Golf Club, Kolar district

KGF Gymkhana Golf Club is a 12 holes golf course originally built for miners of Kolar Gold Fields. Spread over 200 acres, Gymkhana Golf Club is the oldest in Karnataka state and fourth oldest golf course in Karnataka. Along with a club house, gym and other facilities, Gymkhana Golf Club is a popular retreat among senior golfers of Karnataka, as well as among golfers from neighboring Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu state. 

Pilikula Golf Club, Mangaluru, Dakshina Kannada

Pilikula Golf Club is adjacent to popular Pilikula Nisargadhama in Mangaluru. Pilikula Golf Club is spread over 60 acres and has 18 holes. The campus also has guest houses, restaurants and other facilities and is one of the fine golf courses in coastal Karnataka.

Karnataka Golf Association’s Golf Course, Bengaluru

Spread over 125 acres in Chalaghatta near Bengaluru, Karnataka Golf Association’s Golf Course features 7219 yard par 72 course, of Peter Thompson design.

Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club, Mysuru

Mysuru’s most popular golf course, set up by the late Maharaja of Mysuru Nalvadi Krisharaja Wodeyar, Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club is located on the foothills of Chamundi hill, close to Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel. Spread over 110 acres in the premises of Mysore Race Club, this Golf Club is sure to offer a royal experience.

Coorg Golf Links

Coorg Golf Links is another popular golfing destination in Kodagu, located in picturesque surroundings in Pollibetta area. Set up in 1987, Coorg Golf Links is unique as its first half has hills and ponds while the second half is relatively plain.

Prestige Golfshire

Prestige Golfshire is an 18 hole championship golf course within short driving distance from Bengaluru city. Located at the foothill of Nandi Hills, Prestige Golfshire is very close to Bengaluru International airport and is accompanied by a world class resort.

Mercara Downs 

The Mercara Downs Golf Club in Kodagu offers an 18 hole links style layout. Mercara Downs is located in Galibeedu village near Madikeri. The Mercara Downs Golf Club has a course rating of 67 and is known for its vast greens, undulating fairways, windy conditions that resemble Scotland, huge elevation changes etc making the golf course fairly challenging.

 Zion Hills, Kolar

Zion Hills is a challenging, championship level 18 hole golf course in the outskirts of Bengaluru in Hanchala, Kolar district. Zion Hills Golf Course has large boulders and lakes amidst greenery. Zion also runs a state of the art academy for beginners looking to learn about golfing.
