Auspicious Day of Akshaya Tritiya For Good Luck And Health

Akshay Tritiya is an auspicious day for Hindus and in Karnataka, it is also called Akshay Tadige. This year it will be celebrated on 14th May. On this day Sage Veda Vyasa who is also called Krishna Dwaipayana dictated the famous Epic Mahabharata to Lord Ganesha. It is said that this day brings good luck and fortune to businessmen and even in households. Akshaya Tritiya has become a symbol of good faith and on this day buying some kind of metal especially gold or silver signifies good health for the family members. It is typically celebrated on the third day of the lunar month of Vaishaka in the Shukla paksha. It is also considered that goddess Annapurna was born.

In mythology, there is an episode between Lord Krishna and his childhood friend Sudama on this day. The story starts with Sudama visiting Lord Krishna to ask for some financial help and favors. However, he did not have anything to offer to the lord except for a bowl of wheat and rice which he was ashamed to present to the supreme Lord. Krishna was overwhelmed with this humble gesture and accepted the offering by eating a handful of what was brought by Sudama. When Sudama returned home he saw that his little hut had been transformed into a huge palace and his wife, as well as children, wore new and bright clothes. Therefore it symbolizes that when a person offers whatever he can with a good heart to the Lord, the Lord grants all his wishes and returns multiplicative to devotees.

There is also a story that links Lord Krishna to the Pandavas from Mahabharata. It is said that on this day Lord Krishna gave the Pandavas, the Akshaya Patra which is the bowl of food that never finishes. Akshaya Tritiya is quite significant for Hindus all across the world and all the mythological stories revolve around the idea that this day brings monetary gains and good health to people. From the perspective of astrology, it can be noticed that both the sun and the moon, shine brightest on this day.
