It is said that this day brings good luck and fortune to businessmen and even in households. Akshaya Tritiya has become a symbol of good faith and on this day buying some kind of metal especially gold or silver signifies good health for the family members. In mythology, there is an episode between Lord Krishna and his childhood friend Sudama on this day. The story starts with Sudama visiting Lord Krishna to ask for some financial help and favors. However, he did not have anything to offer to the lord except for a bowl of wheat and rice which he was ashamed to present to the supreme Lord. Krishna was overwhelmed with this humble gesture and accepted the offering by eating a handful of what was brought by Sudama. When Sudama returned home he saw that his little hut had been transformed into a huge palace and his wife, as well as children, wore new and bright clothes. Therefore it symbolizes that when a person offers whatever he can with a good heart to the Lord, the Lord grants all his wishes and returns multiplicative to devotees.
